Now concluding after three years of intensive research, development, and real-world testing, the project leaves behind a decentralized, open-source <a href=\"https:\/\/dafneplus.eng.it\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">platform<\/a> powered by blockchain and NFT technologies. Beyond technical innovation, the project aimed to develop practical tools tailored to the needs of diverse creative communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the technological front, DAFNE+ developed a comprehensive ecosystem for digital content creation, distribution, and governance. The <strong>Content Management + DAO Infrastructure<\/strong> was designed to support communities seeking autonomous control over their creative assets, enabling digital asset registration, contributor attribution, and automated revenue sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <strong>modular and interoperable marketplace engine<\/strong> complements this by enabling secure asset listing, transaction facilitation, and NFT-based exchange, enhanced by license attribution, price-setting, and customizable terms of use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"616\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/miha4d.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1801\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miha4d.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-1.jpeg 616w, https:\/\/miha4d.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-1-300x153.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">NFT marketplace \u2014 license setting screenshot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further enriching the platform, a suite of plugin-like tools integrates machine learning capabilities for applications such as music production and 3D pose estimation, fully compatible with the content management system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Real-World Testing: Grounding Innovation in Creative Practice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Equally important to DAFNE+ was its commitment to testing in real-world contexts. The project implemented three pilot use cases, each involving a distinct yet complementary creative community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>first pilot<\/strong>, conducted with students from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schoolofdigitalarts.mmu.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manchester Metropolitan University\u2019s School of Digital Arts<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upm.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UPM<\/a>, focused on cultural heritage and digital arts. These creators were selected for their collaborative workflows and diverse outputs \u2014 ranging from video and sound to XR.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>second pilot<\/strong>, coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ircam.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IRCAM<\/a>, engaged sound and music professionals, including artists, engineers, and researchers. This group was chosen for their use of advanced technologies and their need for precise attribution and provenance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>third pilot<\/strong>, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/fablabbcn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fab Lab Barcelona | IAAC<\/a>, worked with open-source designers, makers, and students from global networks such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/distributeddesign.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Distributed Design Platform<\/a> and the Maker Movement \u2014 whose practices emphasize remixing, sharing, and community-driven innovation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each pilot offered a unique environment to validate the platform\u2019s flexibility, usability, and value proposition, ensuring that its features responded to real user needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fab City Foundation\u2019s Role: Advancing Ecosystemic Innovation and Distributed Design Sustainability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Fab City Foundation (FCF)<\/strong> contributed to DAFNE+ as part of its long-term mission to enable cities to become locally productive and globally connected by 2054. Central to this mission is the <a href=\"https:\/\/zenodo.org\/records\/7432027#.ZAtD03bP23C\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Fab City Full Stack<\/strong><\/a>, a framework supporting the shift from extractive production models to circular, data-driven systems based on \u201cData In \u2014 Data Out\u201d (DIDO) principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAFNE+ aligned with the infrastructure and governance layers of this stack, providing an opportunity to test decentralized tools that promote transparency, openness, and fair value distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FCF integrated its <a href=\"https:\/\/distributeddesign.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/This-Is-Distributed-Design-Book-by-Distributed-Design-Platform.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>distributed design principles<\/strong><\/a> into the project\u2019s development and testing phases, conducting workshops, interviews, and surveys with makers, designers, and educators. The project highlighted both opportunities for innovation and areas requiring further refinement, such as legal compliance, UX simplification, and adaptive governance models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than viewing these challenges as setbacks, DAFNE+ treated them as strategic signals, leading to an integrated business model capable of addressing key dimensions like legal risk, financial sustainability, and platform governance. The resulting <strong>DAFNE+ Platform Business Plan (D6.2)<\/strong> outlines four monetization strategies, transaction fees, revenue sharing, premium tools\/subscriptions, and token-based incentives \u2014 alongside a go-to-market roadmap, risk assessment, and financial forecast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By leveraging <a href=\"https:\/\/sepolia.etherscan.io\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ethereum<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/polygon.technology\/blog\/polygon-pos-and-polygon-zkevm-new-testnets-for-polygon-protocols\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Polygon<\/a> testnets, the project enabled secure, low-risk experimentation while maintaining compatibility with future mainnet deployment. This technical foundation, combined with community-driven governance mechanisms and support for a spectrum of licensing models (from open to proprietary), ensures a flexible and future-proof infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this sense, <strong>DAFNE+ is more than a technological prototype<\/strong>: it is a <strong>living<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gitlab.com\/dafne-plus\/public\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> <strong>blueprint<\/strong><\/a><strong> for ethical, user-centered digital platforms<\/strong>.
